I am searching VERKINS, J H of Mantorville Village, Dodge Co. appearing on the 1870 Census. Hes was listed in the 1880 Census as VERKINS, Jackson at Dodge Center. No age or other information accompanied his name. Was this some kind of facility? Is there a roster for it? Perhaps he is in a Dodge cemetery? There were so few VERKINS/VEHRKENS that immigrated from Germany c1850 via Milwaukee that there must be a connection to Augusta VERKINS 1818-1888 in Waukesha co, WI or Frederick VERKINS 1830-1922 of Winona, MN.

If anyone can point me to info on the name or on Dodge Center please email me. Lorinda Verkins FARKAS lorindafarkas@yahoo.com

I am looking for information on my great-great grandparents Austin H. BABCOCK and Laura (WADE) BABCOCK and their children.

Austin BABCOCK is buried in Concord Cemetery, having passed away Feb 3rd, 1908.  The last known whereabouts of Laura is in Rochester, MN according to the 1920 Census, living with her youngest son Willis Austin BABCOCK.  As far as I know neither she nor Willis are buried in Concord Cemetery. According to the 1880 census, Austin BABCOCK ran a grocery store in Dodge Center.  Can anyone verify this?  Does the building still exist?  If so what is the current address?  Is it possible that today the building is a small diner?

Also, I have a copy of a Land Patent for 80 acres just west of Oronoco, dated Aug 5th,1869.  But the 1874 plat map on the Olmsted County website does not list him as owning that parcel.  Any information on Austin, Laura, Willis or Irness S. BABCOCK would be most appreciated.

Thank you, Jeff Babcock  jeff@jbabcock.net

Jon Saunders email was bounced back to me.

I am the Grandaughter of Esther and Walter.  My mother has original Birth/Marriage, death certificates and Citizenship papers as well as the Engvaldson family bible.  Uncle Lenny and Auntie Swan still have some children in Texas and My Mother also has their names as well as phone numbers, addresses and I believe pictures of family graves.  Walt and Esther have 3 surviving daughters.  One in Mpls, one in Indiana and one in Illinois.

What kind of information could I help you find?

Hope this note finds you and finds you well.  I would be interested in sharing information and family photographs with you.  You can contact me at CarrieL@uark.edu

For years I have been trying to prove a great great uncle, Lewis Clark Masters, did not commit bigamy.  Latest information has him in the 1880 Ashland, MN census with his wife Jennie Easton Masters. I would appreciate your adding my quest to your site. Lewis Clark Masters born in Howard, Steuben Co., NY 1844 to John and Almira Janes Masters.  He married in Feb. 1865 Jennie Easton who is in the 1870 Steuben Co., NY census alone as a schoolteacher in Woodhull, NY.  A woman in IN claims Lewis Clark Masters took the name of Leslie Lewis Clark and married her great grandmother Nancy Jane Chastin in Boucher, IN.about 1872.  I have proof that this Leslie Lewis Clark was born in Tompkins Co., NY in 1843 and his family moved to IN about 1852.  I have his Civil War record, etc.  Anyone have any information on Lewis Clark Masters and his wife Jennie Easton?

I am interested in the family of James Mantor who was born ca. 1790 in town of Beekman Dutchess County, NY and is found in the 1860 census in Mantorville, Dodge County.  I know that two of his children, Peter and Riley were there then also.

Would like any other information that might provide clues as to his wife and his siblings.  His mother Catherine was in Albany Co., NY in 1800 with three sons and three daus

SMITH, Frank- Dodge Co Resident, 1876-bef 1948

In my search for the Ashler and Smith family I am trying to find a child of Mary Ashler Smith and Jacob Smith-- Frank R. Odd Smith. Frank was born in April of 1876 as per the 1900 census where he was found living in West Concord, Dodge Co, MN. He probably died between 1945 and 1948.  He is mentioned as a surviving brother in the obituary of Emma Bringgold in 1945.  He no longer appears as a surviving brother on the obituary of his brother, Albert Ashler in 1948. I have listed the  Frank Smith from the MHS Death Cert Index who died between 1945-1948 who seems like the most likely candidate and one other that seems a possibility.

SMITH, FRANK

 CertID# 1947-MN-010965

  Date of Death:

 County of Death:   05/05/1947

 OLMSTED

a possible though less likely candidate

SMITH, FRANK

 CertID# 1945-MN-005469

 County of Death:   10/01/1945

 HENNEPIN

I was hoping a volunteer might look up his obituary and copy and mail it to me. I would be happy to pay for postage and copying and/or send a SASE.  I would like to have the actual copy and the name and date of the paper it comes from.  Thanks for any help.

Seeking information about Thomas WEBB and family.  Thomas was born in England, approx. 1812.  Wife was Ann, born England, about 1814.  They are listed in the 1870 census in Dodge County in Mantorville with children Sarah, age 22; Emily, age 18; Charles Thomas, age 17 and Lizzie J., age 10.  Believe all children were born in England, except Lizzie who appears to have been born in Minnesota.  Family may have been in Mantorville area as early as 1860.
Have found entries that show a Thomas WEBB and wife Ann buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Mantorville,  in section 1 12 B.  DOB for Thomas 12 August 1812, DOD was 30 June 1886.  DOB for Ann was 1 Jan. 1815 and DOD 27 July 1902.  Daughter Sarah Ann is in same plot.  Her DOB 29 Jan 1846 and DOD 5 May 1923.
Charles Thomas WEBB shows being buried in Evergreen also in section 567C.  DOB of 1853 and DOD 1 Aug. 1933.   Wife Elizabeth COLEMAN WEBB also there.  Her DOB was 1862 and DOD was 8 May, 1916.
Thomas was a brother of my gg-grandfather, John Webb.  Would like to learn more about Thomas' family, but would especially like to connect with any living descendents.  If anyone would be willing to look for obits and/or take photos of headstones, please let me know. Dan Durbin   ddurbin1@cox.net

Hello
! My name is Sarah Churchill and I am an occupational therapy student at the Univeristy of North Dakota (UND). I have been trying to apply for a scholarship for which I need to be a relative of a WWI veteran. My Great Grandfather, Charles Isadore Hoehn, was an army veteran of WWI. I have contacted the National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis, MO but they needed more information to find his name than what I have available.
I was wondering if, by chance, you would happen to have any information on his serving in WWI on record there in Dodge County, and if not where I could look elsewhere to find papers or documentation, or something to prove that he served in WWI. My Great Grandfathers name was Charles Isadore Hoehn. He was born in IA, ID, or MN. His SS# is 482-38-5003 which was issued in IA. He was born 2/4/1890 and died in Hayfield, MN on 3/1975.
If you have further questions, you can contact me at sarah.churchill@und.nodak.edu or call me at 701-775-5024. You can also call my parents, Steve and Marie Churchill of Dexter, MN at 507-584-6601 for further information. Thank you very much for your help.
