Dodge-Olmsted MN Norwegian-Americans
This gedcom on the WorldConnect collection at RootsWeb.com (http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=moiseth) contains almost 15,000 individuals who resided in the Norwegian-American community of southwest Olmsted and southeast Dodge counties in Minnesota. The community was originally known as the "St. Olaf" or "Rock Dell" settlement, established in the mid-1850s--but it expanded geographically over the years. There are some persons of Danish, Swedish, or other descent included, but you will generally not find non-Scandinavian residents within this database. All information contained in this gedcom file should be considered tentative and you should subject it to independent verification. This information was updated on 28-May-2008.
A much more current and expanded version of this "community tree" -- called "Norwegians of Dodge & Olmsted, Minnesota" -- is online at oiseth.org.
Along with it is a companion web site -- called simply "Ole and Lena" -- contains local history, first-person accounts (letters and memoirs), maps and information pertaining to research about this two-county settlement, and more. This web site is here: http://oiseth.org/Ole_and_Lena:_genealogy/
Your feedback--your inquiries, comments, additions, and critiques--can help the database evolve and prove more useful to those researching any members of this interesting community. Please e-mail me at mike8882@comcast.net
